North-Estonia Public Transport Centre becomes IIL

The name change is part of a broader renewal process that aims to better reflect the organisation's role as a developer of public transport and a shaper of the regional mobility network, to extend services to other regions in the future, and to integrate different types of public transport into a coherent whole.

"Bus transport has been left behind other forms of public transport," said Andrus Nilisk, Executive Director of the North-Estonian Public Transport Centre, now IIL. "The previous name and visual identity were outdated and did not sufficiently support the organisation's role in promoting Estonian mobility," he said. The new name and visual identity is modern, more in line with passengers' expectations and gives bus transport a higher profile.

The new name is catchy and easy to find. IIL is short, punchy and ambiguous. The name was chosen to emphasise mobility, speed and lightness - qualities people expect from public transport. The name is also a reference to Estonia's origins and to working in harmony with nature. "The centre of our activities is in Estonia. This is where our people are and this is where our influence is. IIL moves with the rhythm of nature, is sustainable and environmentally friendly," added Nilisk.

Brand renewal is not just about visual identity, but reflects a holistic approach to service development. In addition to bus routes, IIL combines travel planning solutions, card payment options, timetable management and modern customer communication. All services are centralised on the website iil.eewhere passengers can find all the information they need.

IIL aims to increase the use of public transport and provide a reliable alternative to the private car. "We see ourselves not just as a transport organiser, but as a connector of communities. Whether it's getting children to school, commuting to work, or connecting the rural to the city, we want IIL to be a natural part of everyday life," said Nilisk.

In the future, IIL wants to expand its services to other regions, improve the quality of the service and continue to carry out regular satisfaction surveys to ensure that the service meets users' expectations as well as possible. "The future of IIL is not just about bus services, but about integrating all modes of public transport into a coherent whole," stressed Nilisk.

The North-Estonian Ühistranspordikeskus will remain the legal body of the NGO, but the public brand for passenger information and services will now be IIL.
