For the eighth consecutive year, the North-Estonian Public Transport Centre has recognised bus drivers under its fresh service brand IIL for their valuable work, which often goes unnoticed. What started as a small competition seven years ago has grown into a heartfelt recognition event, with more and more nominations each year and people movingly describing why their particular bus driver is exceptional.
Bus and coach drivers are the unsung heroes of our daily mobility. They often start their working day before dawn and finish it after dusk, taking thousands of passengers safely to their destinations. Their job isn't limited to driving - they are first responders in emergencies, counsellors in case of error and often the only friendly face a passenger sees every day.
This year, the following exceptional professionals were recognised:
Harjumaa two outstanding professionals were awarded the title of best bus driver of the year: Anne Haljasmäe from Sebe and Jaanus Tubro from Hansabuss. Both have proven their commitment to passenger welfare and safety.
In Läänemaa Arvo Hallik of M.K-Reis was recognised for his friendly and professional attitude, which has won the hearts of travellers.
Rapla Margit Siniroht from Gobus, whose caring attitude towards each and every traveller has made her a much-loved member of the local community, received the most praise from travellers.
West-Viru County Anne Arro from Hansabuss was singled out for the quality of her work and her human approach, which has been recognised by colleagues and passengers.
These accolades reflect the important role that bus and coach drivers play in the functioning of our society. They connect communities, enable people to get to work, school and loved ones, and ensure that public transport is a safe, reliable and convenient experience for all. Their everyday actions - whether it's helping an elderly passenger board a bus, patiently waiting for a late arrival or sharing a friendly smile - make a positive difference to all our lives.
IIL's competition is an important step towards valuing and giving visibility to the work that is essential to the functioning of our society but too often overlooked.
The IIL team would like to take this opportunity to pay a big bow of thanks to the bus and coach drivers and the companies that employ them, who create such a good working environment that bus and coach drivers are able and willing to offer more than just getting passengers to their destination.
As of 19.06.2023, the following have been assigned from the counties to Tallinn on incoming bus services stops within the administrative territory of the city which are accessible to passengers. for exit only.
On the outbound route from Tallinn, all stops in the timetable remain available for passengers to board and alight, regardless of the length of the journey.
