The Ministry of Regional Development and the Ministry of Agriculture have created and published comprehensive visual overviews that provide an in-depth and up-to-date picture of the current situation, trends and future prospects of the Estonian public transport sector. The reports cover the different modes of transport, providing valuable information for both professionals in the sector and all users of public transport.
These PowerBI-based reports do more than just provide statistics, they give you the opportunity to look behind the scenes of transport management, understand passenger habits and see how the system is evolving.
These data are essential tools for anyone involved in public transport planning and policy-making, but also provide valuable and fascinating material for any informed traveller.
What exactly can you find in the reports?
The Ministry's reviews cover four important aspects of the Estonian transport system:
This report is the most comprehensive and provides detailed information on bus connections across Estonia. The overview includes data on the number of passengers, statistics on journeys, subsidies granted and changes in bus services. The report makes it possible to monitor trends and compare different periods. It is the basis for planning and optimising passenger transport.
A separate overview provides data from the Ridango ticketing system via card usage. You can analyse passengers' ticket purchasing and validation habits, and traffic patterns, to help demonstrate the performance of the ticketing system and lay the foundations for new solutions. This dataset will provide insight into the use of e-ticketing and passenger habits in purchasing and validating tickets.
The Grand Islands Ferries Report provides a critical insight into the number of passengers and traffic dynamics on ferry services serving the Grand Islands. The report is vital for understanding the performance of regional policy in island-to-mainland transport.
The Air Traffic Report provides an in-depth analysis and overview of the use and volumes of airports and air traffic in Estonia. The main focus of the report is on the statistics of state-supported domestic air services, mostly covering traffic between the mainland and islands. You will find detailed data on passenger numbers, routes and state subsidies, giving a comprehensive picture of domestic air transport in Estonia.
Data Openness and Strategic Value
These detailed reports provide valuable information for planning public transport and understanding trends, contributing to a better and more sustainable transport system across Estonia.
Interactive PowerBI visualisations reflect the government's ambition to make public transport data accessible and transparent. This means that anyone - whether they are a politician, a transport manager, a local authority official or just an informed passenger - can explore, filter and analyse the data to their own interests.
We invite you to actively use these reviews! Dive into the data to better understand the system's functioning, challenges and potential. Because only by analysing together can we contribute to a smarter and more passenger-friendly future for public transport in Estonia.
